NBC’s new original series, “School Pride”, is a proactive series that documents communities coming together to renovate their aging and broken public schools. It’s co-produced by Cheryl Hines from “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” Denise Cramsey from ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition” and “True Beauty,” with Brian Krow as the Design Producer. Krow was also a co-producer of Extreme Makeover Home Edition.
Barn Light Electric® supplied the Schoolhouse Pendants seen in the “School Pride” episode titled: “Follow the Teachers.” The Schoolhouse Pendants come from the Discount Warehouse Lighting section and feature traditional lighting styles found in libraries and schools around the 1940′s and 50′s.
In this episode, a team of volunteers from Baton Rouge and beyond joined forces to bring a 52-year-old Lanier Elementary School back to its proud place in the community. The failing school was taken over by a group of young heroes, the teachers from Teach 4 America. These charismatic teachers inspire students,
teachers and the community to transform their school with the help of local sports celebrities and pour their hearts out during the emotional reveal of the new facilities.
Other schools and communities highlighted in the series include Enterprise Middle School in Compton, California; Kingston Springs Elementary in Nashville, Tennessee; Communication and Media Arts School in Detroit, Michigan; Needles High School in Needles, California; Hollenbeck Middle School in Los Angeles, California; and Los Angeles Center for Enrichment Studies in Los Angeles, California.
Throughout the dramatic transformation of each school, the respective communities restore their sense of value and school pride. During each episode, the school’s renovation process is chronicled as cameras follow students, teachers and parents as they roll up their sleeves and rebuild their own schools. Each episode concludes with the unveiling of a brand new, completely restored campus. They are motivated by a quartet of community organizers and personalities – SWAT Commander Tom Stroup; Interior Designer Susie Castillo (House of Payne); Comedian and former substitute teacher Kym Whitley (‘Til Death); and Journalist Jacob Soboroff (AMC News). Together, the team of experts will lead the community through the makeover process.
“School Pride” is produced by Horizon Alternative Television.
