While getting older may have its downsides, the perspective that comes with age is a blessed thing. Many empty nesters realize that the 4,000-square-foot home they lovingly maintained while the kids were growing up is actually way too big and too much work when there are more entertaining ways to spend a weekend. Such was the case for today’s Featured Customer, Janet and her husband, who decided to downsize their living space in a quiet and peaceful setting. Their dream — a modern, one-level farmhouse situated on 10 acres in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

When we spotted the utilitarian interiors of the Barista Parlour on Zarna’s Runway, we got the impression that someone on their interior design team had a little crush on vintage-inspired pendant lighting. With its high, vaulted ceilings, exposed wiring, and masculine wood accents, this coffee shop plays up the rustic side of commercial design. You can get this look by incorporating some of these antiquated details.
Display and organize your collections with compact, shop-inspired shelving like this Hip Display Shelf. DIY crate shelves are an easy alternative if you’d rather construct them yourself.
Breathe new life into old nautical and state flags by displaying them as wall ornamentations. This nostalgic State of Oregon Flag would look great on display and would be a great way to infuse color into your space!
Rooms with high ceilings are ideal for creative lighting displays. In this shop, we love that they combined bare bulb pendants with old warehouse shades to reflect different volumes of light. Barn Light Electric manufactures many similar hanging pendants like the Ivanhoe™ Sky Chief Warehouse Porcelain Pendant, the Ivanhoe™ Conoco Porcelain Pendant, and the Indy Porcelain Socket Pendant. Juxtapose this industrial lighting with something more refined like the Central Park Swing Arm Sconce.
The industrial-style interiors are making the transition from winter trend to spring must-have — so start your space today!

Let’s face it — women spend a lot of time in the kitchen. It is what it is, and it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Especially when your kitchen is light-filled and a comfortable place not only to prepare meals but to relax with the kids after school or enjoy an evening cuppa tea with that last brownie you tucked away. This inviting space is full of feminine details from the floral wallpaper and plate collection to the pink framed chalkboard and baby blue fridge. Complementing all of these light touches are the cord hung pendants in a soft mint color which really pops amidst all the pink and blue.

When Beth, a Delaware resident, decided to punch up her turn-of-the-century kitchen, she didn’t just change up the paint color and pick out new countertops.
“This was a complete remodel of our kitchen,” Beth says. “We very much changed the layout and took out a back hall closet to gain some much needed space.” And like so many other homeowners who are making improvements to their
space, Beth turned to magazines and websites for inspiration for the kitchen lighting.
