Every business needs good exterior lighting to help customers safely navigate their way to the front door after dark and to bring attention to the business from passersby. Yet fixtures that throw light all around are not only annoying to the neighbors, but can create dangerous glare and shadows where prowlers can hide which defeats the purpose of effective outdoor lighting. One of our recent Featured Customers, Michael of Millbrook Electric, installed one of our 17″ Goodrich Bomber Porcelain Gooseneck Lights on his business and explained what he likes best about his new porcelain barn light.Read More
When it comes to exterior lighting, there are many factors to consider, but one detail that often gets overlooked is how the fixture functions at night. Today’s Featured Customer, Michael of Millbrook Electric, recently installed one of our 17″ Goodrich Bomber Porcelain Gooseneck Lights on his business. He shared a picture of his new light on our Facebook page and told us about his favorite feature.
“The best part of having this style of lighting is the impact it makes at night,” Michael says. “It casts the most awesome light down over the door and walkway without polluting the neighbors with unwanted light.” Michael and his wife bought the building for their electrical contracting business in 2011 when they outgrew their old location.
They are now located in the Village of Millbrook, New York, in the middle of Michael’s hometown.
“As a third-generation electrical contractor, I can’t imagine myself being anywhere else to serve the public,” Michael says. The building was built in 1930 by a local family who still owned the building when Michael bought it.
“During the renovations, I wanted to keep with the style of an old warehouse so I purchased the Bomber to dress up and welcome you to the front door of the office space,” Michael explains. The Bomber is a great choice for commercial buildings and warehouses as its generous span of light offers plenty of illumination. This American-made light is hand spun by our metal crafters who also hand apply two coats of porcelain enamel glass in your choice of finish colors. Michael chose a Black finish with a G24 gooseneck arm for his classic light.
The shades are baked in our big, beautiful porcelain oven where the porcelain enamel is sealed for an extremely durable, high-gloss finish. This finish will never fade or corrode and requires minimal maintenance — all great qualities for commercial lighting!
“As an electrical contractor, I have installed many kinds of lighting from Barn Light Electric,” Michael says. “I knew just what I wanted for my own personal space — beauty, style and quality.”

It is so refreshing to see businesses trying something besides track lighting or fluorescent fixtures for their spaces. In recent blogs we’ve seen an airport store that featured rustic sconces, a winery with galvanized warehouse shades, and porcelain pendants for a southern BBQ joint. Today’s Featured Customer is retail giant Macy’s who opted for their own bold and beautiful porcelain shades in the form of Barn Light Electric’s Goodrich™ Bomber to highlight the Ralph Lauren display at their Millenial Mall location in Orlando.
These porcelain shades didn’t have to travel far as they are hand spun by our very own craftsmen right here in Florida. Crafted from commercial grade steel, these shades feel substantial right out of the box and are made to last. A coating of glass enamel is also hand applied giving each fixture a unique look. The shade is then baked at a very high temperature to create its signature shiny and incredibly durable finish.
This 17″ Goodrich™ Bomber comes in eight beautiful finish colors including our newest offering — classy Graphite. Macy’s chose a Bronze finish for their fixtures but you may prefer something bolder like Cobalt Blue, Yellow, or creamy Jadite. More than 20 different gooseneck arms fit this shade — one is sure to give your new light just the right projection and height. Several options are also available for customizing the gooseneck arm including a match to your shade color, brushed aluminum, or other traditional finishes.
Although we think these lights look awesome indoors, the entire line of Goodrich™ Gooseneck Lighting is wet rated for outdoor locations so they should be considered for exterior applications like storefronts, barns, warehouses, garages, and more. Even when placed outdoors exposed to the elements year after year, the porcelain enamel coating will never fade or corrode and with a simple soap and water cleanup, will provide a lifetime of use!
Nothing makes our eyes light up like seeing bold, beautiful warehouse shades highlighting the side of a barn. And while this barn is actually a garage, we love the vernacular of this structure located in a small, western Connecticut town tucked into the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains. From the traditional barn doors to the cupola on top, this building needed nothing more than a classic light like an RLM warehouse shade to complete the look.Read More
