By now you’re probably familiar with the work that the Extreme Makeover Home Edition team has done for deserving families. The Hall family is an all American family from Kansas and was one of the lucky families that have received help from the EMHE team. Carl Hall, patriarch of the family and former baseball star, was seriously injured in a car accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down.

The EMHE team of builders and designers built a beautiful ranch home for the family, topped off with rustic and farmhouse décor from the inside out. The Hall’s new home has been equipped with an indoor basketball court and outdoor batting cages too – complete with technology for Carl to play and interact with his kids. While this is definitely a welcome addition to the handicap accessible home, the two lucky parents still needed a retreat to call their own.

Keeping with the country atmosphere of the home, the design team put together the master bedroom that farmhouse style fanatics can only dream of. As you can see, the team went all out when designing this space – filling it with antiques and even Carl’s old baseball memorabilia.

Over the bed is a huge mural reading, “Kansas Sweethearts” – and it’s the perfect term to describe the young couple. Highlighting the sign are three of our gooseneck sign lights. The All Weather Gooseneck Angle Shade was the perfect choice for playing up the sign. Thankfully, the EMHE team chose a neutral galvanized finish for each light, careful not to stray from the classic country décor.

Opposite of the mural are two large sliding barn doors. What lays behind the doors are precious memories that the couple has shared together: Carl’s days of playing baseball and even the couple’s wedding photos. They gather around a touching message from Carl to his wife. On either side of this featured wall, you’ll find our Ivanhoe™ Sinclair Porcelain Pendant lamps. Not only are the Sinclair pendants a rustic necessity, they are about as American as apple pie. That’s right, just when you thought finding affordable American lighting was an impossible task, our line of enamel lighting is low in price, but big on style!

When it comes to ABC’s Sunday night heartwarming series, even the smallest of rooms are decked out to the max. Would you ever expect anything simple to come from the Extreme Makeover Home Edition team? If you’ve ever watched the show or heard anything about it, you know “simple” isn’t in their vocabulary.

Once you take a closer look, you’ll see the attention to detail that’s been put into their bathroom. Primarily used by the Hall family daughters (each of whom are in their teenage years), the designers wanted an area that kept with the home’s farmhouse design, but gave the teens a spot to still be girly. Take a look at the built in sinks – they have a patchwork-like pattern with flowers and butterflies. Coordinating with the colors in the sink bowls are orange and red hand towels placed within wire baskets and vanity shelving. Another well thought out characteristic is the triple vanity area, one for each of the lucky girls. That means no more battling for a mirror while getting ready for school!

Mounted above the mirrors are three gooseneck lamps, the newest alternative to bathroom vanity light fixtures. Of course gooseneck lighting isn’t new to the lighting world, but their use in bathrooms is an innovative concept that is likely to stick around. You may even notice that the faucets match the arch on the gooseneck – those designers didn’t miss a thing, did they?

So now you’re probably rethinking your own vanity lights, hmm? Well, the EMHE designers got their gooseneck barn lights from us, and you can too! Have a look at our 14″ All Weather Gooseneck Warehouse Shade, an American made light fixture with a small price tag attached to it – yes, they do exist! After all, classic American made lighting is only fitting for the all American family, right? You’re probably familiar with ABC’s Sunday night hit series – particularly the extravagant homes that are built by Ty Pennington and his crew on Extreme Makeover Home Edition. If you haven’t viewed any of the episodes, here is a little background information: Extreme Makeover Home Edition began in 2003 by renovating or rebuilding homes for deserving families. In many cases, the family has encountered some sort of devastation within their lives or has voluntarily helped out their community, never expecting anything in return.

Back in May, the Hall family from Kansas was chosen by the EMHE crew, and for good reason. Carl Hall, former Wichita State baseball star and patriarch of the family, was paralyzed from the neck down in a car accident. Their existing home was not exactly handicap accessible so that’s where the Extreme Makeover crew stepped into help out this ultra deserving, sports minded family. The EMHE team built a home for the family that was equipped with necessities such as all-access entryways and luxuries like a specially designed batting cage for Carl to play ball with his kids.

At the front entryway, you’ll notice our jadite gooseneck barn lights. You guessed it, that means we had the privilege of working with the design crew on building a home for the Hall family! All along the exterior of the home, there are 12″ Goodrich™ Dino Porcelain Gooseneck Lights. Not only does the jadite stand out against the rich blue siding, but it also makes the entire exterior area safe and handicap accessible during the evenings.

The show is known for its extravagant and magazine-like decor choices, so designers knew that our trendy Goodrich™ Dinos would perfectly tie into the ranch styling of this Kansas home. After all, it features vintage and rustic décor inside and out. The jadite enamel finish can even endure the rough Kansas dust and windstorms. These gooseneck lights weren’t only used near the front door either. In fact, the design crew needed 11 of these to illuminate the exterior balconies, walkways and patio areas!

During a recent episode of ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition, a pair of vintage barn lights were displayed in the bedroom of the Urban family’s renovated log cabin.

The homeowners, Trisha and Andy Urban, were in the midst of planning their renovations for the cabin when Andy tragically passed away from a heart attack. To complete the Urban’s vision, Ty Pennington and the rest of the Extreme Makeover design team rebuilt the Urban’s crumbling, 300-year-old log cabin and farm. Each of the upgrades made to the Urban household were made to reflect the rustic and industrial appearance of the original barn. Distressed wood doors were painted in cottage colors and vintage inspired furniture was placed in various rooms throughout the house. Outside of the home, goats and other farm animals on the Urban’s property were provided with a new stall, aptly named the “Goatel.”

Extreme Makeover Home Edition: Hill Family – An urban environment was created in the finished basement with pair of 7” Angle Shades used to light a media wall, and the addition of several 17” Old Dixie Pendants with red wire guards suspended from the ceiling.

Extreme Makeover Home Edition: Williams Family – Our unique lighting was installed all over the new Williams’ home – from the kitchen, living room, and multiple bedrooms. At some point, we’ve all watched our favorite design show and said, “I could never do that.” Today we took a little inspiration from one of our many favorite TV shows – Extreme Makeover Home Edition. Every Sunday viewers tune in to see Ty Pennington and his design team’s awesome creations, with the ultimate goal being to help a very deserving family. A few weeks ago, Barn Light Electric had the opportunity to donate lighting for the Williams family in Pine Mountain Valley, Georgia. Josie, who is 8, is a mini cowgirl at heart, and received a very cool Hayloft inspired room (see finished photo below).

To bring a similar room into your home, we’d like to introduce today’s Style Guide that is devoted to the ultimate cowgirl. We selected bedding similar to The Hayloft – something bright, colorful, and utilized old, rustic patterns. Topping off the bed, we’d suggest throwing on some decorative cow print throw pillows. Although pricey, you can choose authentic cow skin or a cheaper Etsy alternative – we like Etsy’s!

Light up your Hayloft with none other than our Barn Lights! To be placed on both sides of the bed, we selected two Barn Light Province Cast Guard Sconces in our Cruiser Green finish. Sconces next to the bed can serve as accent lighting and can be used for bedtime stories and future late night studying. By selecting a frosted glass option, a softer glow of light will be released. If your little cowgirl has a desk for coloring or homework, we recommend the Machine Age Metal Table Lamp. By combining a warehouse style shade as the top, and selecting a raw, galvanized finish, a rustic, traditional country feel is brought into the area.

Complete your room by adding accessories and authentic looking hay bales – these can act as book shelves, headboards, or night stands. After getting caught up in our catalog launch and another exciting appearance on Extreme Makeover Home Edition, we almost forgot about our own construction update! If you follow along, this past Friday was the final launch of Space Shuttle Atlantis. With only two remaining shuttle missions left, it seems the world is flocking to get a glimpse of history – and when an additional estimated 300,000 people came into Titusville Friday, traffic was a little more than backed up. So, we decided to close up shop for a couple hours to take part in the launch, allow for plenty of travel time, and also to give our employees a chance to see our new building’s progress.

Needless to say, they were a little more than surprised to see how far we’ve come. From what began as “The Ugly Blue Building” is now more than double in size and looks nothing like what we started with. The most surprising change comes with the addition of a second floor where we will have several offices and a storage area. It is also hard to imagine the soaring warehouse as well – where we will not have to be greeted by boxes each morning! After taking the internal tour, it was time to head to out to the dock to investigate where we will spend many lunch breaks enjoying the Florida sunshine and calm breezes. The dock will also be our prime, unobstructed location to watch the final two NASA launches – without fighting traffic or crowds!

Overall, Week 14 saw final window installation, and stucco applied to cover up the existing concrete block. The Hardie Board will remain a similar yellow color, and stucco will be painted to match. Interior walls began to be closed in and the showroom prepped for shelving and wall display units. See you next week!

Nestled in the hills of West Central Georgia is the Williams family – Jeremy and Jennifer and their two children, 8-year-old Josie and 6-year-old Jacob who was diagnosed at birth with Spina Bifida. Shortly after Jacob’s birth, Jeremy visited a doctor after noticing trouble moving his hand. After three grueling years of testing, Jeremy was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease; a fatal, progressive disease affecting nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, which ultimately interferes with muscle movement. For now, Jeremy is able to still work and move around, but soon enough, he too will be confined to a wheel chair.

The Williams’ home is anything but fit for two members to move about freely in wheel chairs. For now, Jennifer is able to carry 6-year-old Jacob throughout their small house, but as he gets older, that will become impossible. With a sinking foundation and walls infected with mold from a leaking air conditioner, it is easy to see the Williams are in desperate need of an extreme home makeover!

When Barn Light Electric got word of this week’s theme, there was no doubt that we would be on board – who better to call for a Country Farmhouse than Barn Light Electric! Our unique lighting can be found all over the new Williams home – the kitchen, living room, and multiple bedrooms. The TV shows today make construction look too easy! In under 60 minutes, a hand full of people can clean out, demo, paint, and decorate entire rooms or garages. In 2010, we have had the pleasure with working on several television renovation shows – Construction Intervention, Garage Mahal, and Extreme Makeover, just to name a few. Working around the clock for 3-4 days, designers can take a cluttered or ugly space and transform it into a work of art. If only it were that easy! In real time, we’re on Week 11 – moving slowly, but progressing.

We’re to the point where we can start to actually visualize what our future home will look like. Sure, we can see it laid out on the blueprints, but it’s not until the framework and walls start going in, can you really get a grasp on it all. We are all VERY excited for this new chapter. Most of us have forgotten what “personal space” is – not to mention daylight. The thought of personal offices and TWO bathrooms is overwhelming at times.

Week 11 saw much progress. Red trim along the rooftop was finalized and our favorite teal block began to get covered with Hardie Board. It’s still in it’s natural color for now, but will soon be painted a light gray to match the remaining steel siding. A wrap around front porch will be installed in the coming weeks utilizing galvanized steel for the roof. It was the interior that saw the most changes this week. Most of the metal framework was installed to begin creating offices. Keeping with our original plan to build using sustainable techniques, reclaimed doors and windows from a Pennsylvania hospital will be re-used on each office. Although still without a staircase, the loft-like second floor also had framework installed. This wall will separate office space from a storage area – stay tuned to find out what new items we will be assembling!

Amazingly, ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition is already in its 7th season. Week after week, Ty Pennington and his design crew visit the homes of some of the most deserving families in America. A variety of celebrities join the crew this season including singer/songwriter Jewel and her famous, 9-time World Champion, bull-riding husband, Ty Murray. Both make an appearance this week at the Creaseys!
The Creasey family from Lexington, North Carolina are known in their community for their devotion – to each other, their children, their schools where they both work, and to their community. Three years ago, Tricia, wife and mother of 3, was diagnosed with colon cancer. Since she was first diagnosed, the cancer has spread, making it incurable. Tricia still continues to receive chemotherapy while teaching her 7th grade class – never missing a day. However, now due to their financial circumstances, the Creasey family struggles to keep up home repairs while paying for chemotherapy. The pressure of providing a safe home for their children and fighting cancer has taken a lot out of the Creaseys, but at least one worry is about to be taken care of!
William and Tricia’s oldest daughter, Brittany, was one of the lucky recipients of getting a Barn Light Electric light in her Paris Rooftop themed bedroom. If you happened to watch Extreme Makeover Home Edition last night you would have been introduced to the Hill Family, a well deserving family of 13 in need of an extensive home renovation.  With an emphasis on volunteering, the team was joined this week by actor/rapper Xzibit to provide some additional help to this selfless family.  The home that Ty Pennington and the rest of the design team arrived at was extremely cramped for this family of 13, with various issues due to years of heavy wear and tear and water damage.  When the design team had contacted us about contributing to the renovation of the Hill’s house we, along with our manufacturer, were more than happy to offer some of our warehouse lights and wall mount fans to this well deserving family.  A desired urban environment was created in the finished basement with pair of 7” angle shades on HL-H Goosenecks that were used to light a media wall, and the addition of a number of 17” Old Dixie Pendants with red wire guards were suspended from the ceiling around the basement.  The raw look of the galvanized finish on these shades helps to compliment the bright colors and rich tones that encompassed the walls and furniture, creating an impressive loft inspired environment.  The finishing touch completing this ideal man cave was the addition of a kitchenette with a corresponding workout room equipped with one of our wall mounted commercial barn fans, keeping the young men of the Hill house cool while they workout. We could not be happier with the end product that the designers at Extreme Makeover Home Edition created for the Hill family, and we were honored that they chose our Barn Light Electric products to complete such an incredible home for this well deserving family.
