Earlier this week, we visited with designer Cheryl Sottile in a post featuring a kitchen renovation in the Florida Keys. Cheryl infused tropical hues into the space with our Ivanhoe™ Dino Porcelain Pendant Lights in a creamy Jadite finish. Today, we cross the Sunshine State to visit another one of Cheryl’s project sites, this time in Sarasota where she tackled transforming a former oyster bar into a Mexican restaurant.

A serious love of all things vintage drives Meg and Trevor’s home design in Ontario, Canada. As they considered improvements to their main living space, Meg knew the cheesy, big-box-store lights would have to go.
“We wanted to add some interest to the ceiling as it is quite high and we had plain flush mount lights with no real interest,” Meg explains. “We spend most of our time in this room so comfort was a definite feel requirement.” The couple have an eclectic mix of items in their home including a lot of ethnographic African art mixed in with rustic industrial touches.

When homeowners Carrie and Chris purchased their new home in Rhode Island, they had one goal in mind — to make it their own and to have fun in the process.
“We purposely bought the worst house in the best neighborhood with the intention of starting over from scratch,” Carrie says. “Our house is more than 125 years old and we’ve been conscious of its history when making our design decisions.” While the house renovations took priority, Carrie didn’t ignore the details of the detached garage which also needed updating. New paint and a new light were in order, and Carrie chose our All Weather Gooseneck Farm Light from the Discount Barn Lighting collection.

When we kicked off the summer with our annual B.L.O.G. contest — that’s Barn Light Online Giveaway — many of you bloggers dove right into our website to pick out your favorite lights then blogged about it online. When the dust settled, our third place prize went to Shannan in Goshen, Indiana. Shannan muses about house and home on her Flower Patch Farmgirl blog. Shannan and her husband Cory, along with kids Calvin, Ruby and Silas, are anxiously awaiting the completion of their new home. The B.L.O.G. contest came at an opportune time for them.
