When you’re in the throes of a remodeling project, there are seemingly a thousand things that can go wrong. But sometimes you just get lucky. When Kara of Illinois recently tackled a kitchen remodel in her 1890s-era farmhouse, she selected three of Barn Light Electric’s Ivanhoe™ Esso Warehouse Porcelain Pendants in a Jadite finish.
“The Jadite is a favorite color of ours,” Kara says. “And lo and behold the pendants totally matched our new glass subway tile back splash. That was kismet! I had no idea if they would match.” The 8″ Esso pendants are ideal for Kara’s kitchen island — not too big and not too small. The small kitchen space had been remodeled in the 90s and was very functional for one person, but Kara, her husband and two daughters needed more practical space for dining, chatting, and doing homework.
“There was a large formal dining room so we removed a wall and basically put the kitchen in the dining room,” Kara explains. “The old kitchen space is for casual dining plus it has the back door entry which we use every day, so it’s also the kids’ dumping zone/mudroom.” The Esso pendant, which also comes in a 10″ size, is handcrafted from commercial grade steel by our own artisans and can be customized in a variety of ways. Kara chose a standard white cord for her lights but you may also choose a colored cotton twist cord for a vintage look. Kara also chose a matching Jadite canopy for her fixtures.
“I love the Jadite canopy on the ceiling,” she notes. “It is a nice pop of color with the white cabinets. The lights are one of the first things people notice when they walk in the door.” Kara and her husband designed the kitchen themselves and wanted a bright space with a farmhouse chic look. They included dimmers for the Esso pendants which, as Kara says, creates nice mood lighting at night.
“I just love the lights. They’re wonderful,” Kara says. “I love the vintage look, but also love that they’re new and made in the USA.”
