Featured Customer | Modern Wall Sconces Add Sleek Touch to 19th Century Home

When we last visited Carrie, author of the blog Hazardous Design, she and her husband were busy pushing their late 1800s-era home into the 21st century one space at a time. That post described the garage makeover which included some fresh paint and one of our All Weather Gooseneck Farm Lights.

Today we return to the home where Carrie has been focusing her latest efforts on the front entryway. As with many renovations in an older home, the first steps included removing dated materials. In Carrie’s case, this meant steaming away a busy vinyl wallpaper and stripping the staircase down to bare wood. With a relatively clean palette, the couple repainted the ceiling and walls, stained the stairs “dark, dark, dark” as Carrie says, and cut picture molding to add interest and texture to walls.

Carrie struggled a bit with the lighting for this long space and, on a return to Barn Light Electric, was surprised to find the perfect modern wall sconces. Yes, we do have modern fixtures! Carrie chose the Vista Sconce in Satin Nickel with a Black Shade and Silver Foil Lining. “I have to admit, I had no idea of Barn Light Electric’s extensive selection outside of the iconic barn light style,” Carrie says. “We’ve used a lot of antiques and classic materials in our decorating but we’re also trying to give everything an updated twist.”
