In Wednesday’s blog, we visited Barn Light customers Mark and Jennifer in Madison, Connecticut who escaped the wrath of Hurricane Sandy in spite of living right on a marsh that looks out to Long Island Sound. It’s a picturesque location for their brand new home which is described by Jennifer as casual coastal.
Yesterday we saw her new Outback Gooseneck Light along the pathway beside the house and Atomic Cast Guard CGU Sconces looking stylish on the garage. Those sconces looked so good, Jennifer decided to bring them indoors as well using them to light up the staircase heading to the second level (left below). At the top, Jennifer chose the matching Atomic CGU Pendant (shown on the right below).
Jennifer stayed with the nautical look of the rustic sconce for her son’s bathroom but chose the Industrial Static Topless Sconce here.
“The theme of his bathroom was centered around these,” Jennifer says. “We brought in a cast iron utility sink with a reclaimed wood mirror. It’s my favorite bathroom in the whole house!” For her daughters’ Jack-and-Jill style bath, shown on the right, Jennifer fell in love with the Mini Radial Wave Shades in a galvanized finish — rugged, but still dainty enough for her girls. While we no longer offer the mini version, the Starfire Radial Wave Reflector Gooseneck Light will give you the same look in a slightly larger shade.
Now on to the kitchen which, in a word, is stunning with a wall of windows looking out onto the marsh. This generous space is bright and airy, and skylights let the sun splash the room from above. The room features a plank ceiling, beadboard walls, and honey colored oak floors. And right over the sink is a classic light — the Goodrich™ Union Porcelain Gooseneck in white.
“I loved the jadite finish offered by Barn Light Electric, but I ended up with the white since it matched my kitchen better,” Jennifer says. “This is right over my farm sink and it’s perfect!” And now that Jennifer and Mark are finally settling into their new home, they can sit back and enjoy their new lighting.
“Each light has so much character. Some are playful, others are nostalgic,” Jennifer says. “Of all the many decisions we had to make while building our home, we are most pleased with the quality and look of our lighting. The lights work perfectly with our mix of old and new. I couldn’t get over how sturdy the construction was and how easy they were to install. I can’t say enough!”
