When considering outdoor lighting for your business, perhaps you’ve struggled with finding a fixture that provides enough lighting on your building or signage without being too overbearing or throwing light all around. For an intense, focused beam of light, consider PAR Lighting which stands for Parabolic Aluminized Reflector. Without going into a science lesson that’s too intense for the first day of June (hey, it’s summer already!), suffice it to say that PAR lighting consists of a sealed beam lamp, much like your car’s headlights, that provides an intense oval pool of light with unfocused edges. These are widely used in commercial, residential, and transportation illumination — think of locomotive headlamps, aircraft landing lights, and residential and commercial recessed can lights.Read More
The New England Culinary Institute has been providing “highly intense culinary education” for more than 30 years. Located in Montpelier, Vermont, the Institute attracts would-be chefs from all over the world and has grown from seven students in its first graduating class to more than 4,000 alumni including Iron Chef Host Alton Brown.
Black River Design Architects, also located in Montpelier, recently completed a remodel for NECI of an existing structure and carriage house with a connector between the two. This photo shows part of the connector which houses the administrative offices. The entrance is accented with some delightful sconces and PAR lighting around the doorway. The sconces are very similar to our Barn Light Wall Mount Lunar Sconce, part of our collection of Rustic Wall Sconces which take their designs from the Atomic Age of the 1950s and 60s. The detailing around the jelly jar globe resembles planetary rings giving the fixture a futuristic look. The Lunar Sconce comes in six sizes from 8″ to 18″ and an array of finish colors are available. Classic black or one of our metallic finishes lend a traditional feel to this light while a cruiser green, trans blue, or bright yellow would give a more modern vibe to your space. The glass globe can be customized with colored, frosted, or textured glass as well.Read More
We love nearly anything vintage, rustic or industrial farmhouse (ish), but we also adore those certain contemporary and post modern pieces too. Since we don’t touch on it nearly enough, in honor of this fun, quirky style, our blog article today will note how to turn this often overlooked scheme into an essential element in your home.
Even if you only use a few pieces to update an area, or decide to dedicate your whole home to the classic era, there are a few necessary pieces you will need – allow us to explain. Start with vibrant pop art – the most recognizable pop artist is Andy Warhol and his prints are available in popular department stores like Target and Wal-Mart – easily accessible and easily affordable. If you don’t want to go over the top, keep everything else neutral and incorporate this style of art. If you’re feeling bold though, you can always add a few brightly colored pillows and rugs to coordinate. Highlight your new work of art with Par Lighting. Par lights are small, simple sign lights that extend directly outward with a tiny light focused on the accent piece below. Typically used to light restaurant menus by waiting areas, par lights can be used in a residential settings too and can really bring an elegant look to a room.
Not everything calls for par lighting though. When searching for appropriate post modern pendant lamps, think about metallic finishes and art deco influenced shapes. It’s all about symmetry here with unusual decorative elements. Shown in the photo above is the Roswell Pendant. The Roswell Pendant is a limited vintage industrial ceiling light, so if you miss your chance don’t worry, there are still other options. The Barn Light Galaxy Pendant, shown on the left, also takes the overt visual geometry of post-modern art into account. Its tiered design makes the modern pendant look like something straight from The Jetsons!
Smart managers and store owners know the value of attention to detail when it’s applied to every aspect of their stores, including the lighting. Gooseneck lights help stores stand out from the competition in crowded retail areas – like shopping malls or outlet shopping centers.
A perfect example is the Sperry Top-Sider store in the Florida Mall (shown above). It features six galvanized metal gooseneck sign lights that highlight the sign above the front entrance. Compared to the neighboring store on the right, Sperry Top-Sider strikes the perfect balance of a strong presence and a welcoming appearance. Barn Light Electric offers similar lighting styles to the ones shown above in our Sign Lighting section online.
The Angle Shade Gooseneck Sign Light directs a focused beam of light to accent signage, artwork or any surface worthy of showcasing. The Angle Shade starts at $204.00 each, while a smaller, mini angle shade is available for $154.00. Both versions are can be customized from a wide variety of finishes to match the colors of your home or business. Metal cast guard units are available as an optional add-on to protect the light bulb. Notice that these trendy accessories were added onto the Sperry Top-Sider store we feature today, and can be seen by guests entering or exiting the store.
This protective cast guard feature is commonly seen on light fixtures found around boats, docks and shipyards. The gooseneck lights not only give Sperry Top-Sider a brighter sign that’s easier to read, but they also re-enforce the store’s nautical branding by adding their galvanized metal finish to the navy blue sign with white lettering. With a similar arrangement, you can enhance the entryway to your own store no matter what your business offers.
Barn Light Electric’s selection of sign lights boasts a variety of sizes, styles and finishes to showcase your office building or storefront. For small to medium sized areas, our handcrafted Emblem Shades offer a very classic style in 8″ or 16″ shades. PAR Sign Lights are available for stores with a more a contemporary look or for areas that need a small amount of directed lighting. Perfect placement for these may be restaurants or art galleries.Read More
