With all of the technology that pervades our lives, developing relationships with people far away is easier than ever. But nothing beats a face-to-face meeting.
When we first “met” Veronica Valencia seven years ago, she was a young designer working on the set of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. She asked oh so politely if Barn Light Electric would be interested in donating lights to the show.
We said yes and our long-distance relationship with this up-and-coming designer took flight. We worked with Veronica during the five years she designed homes and art directed on Extreme Makeover as well as on new projects that came her way.
Last January, Barn Light... Read More
We follow a lot of blogs here at Barn Light Electric and one of our favs is Design Sponge. In yesterday’s D*S post on pendant lighting, Grace Bonney wrote, “When it comes to making your house feel like a home, the best investment you can make is in pieces that will remain timeless.”
We couldn’t agree more! Some of the most timeless styles of lighting can be found in our Porcelain Enamel Collection of barn lights. We have taken many of the classic designs from companies like Goodrich®, Ivanhoe®, and Benjamin®, and updated them with a wide range of finish colors and options like cotton cords, wire cages, and cast guards to provide customers... If you’re a follower of design blogs, you’ve probably kept up with the chatter on this year’s design trends. From the crowning of Radiant Orchid as the color of the year to the trend of mixing metals, fabrics, and colors in a space, this year seems to be about choosing pieces you love and worrying less about making everything match!
One trend we’ve spotted are metallic accessories popping up everywhere from wardrobes to appliances to furniture. Copper in particular seems to be making quite a comeback and, as one of the oldest materials known to man, is still sought after for its timeless beauty.
In home design, copper’s rich, natural hue... Read More
There are a few must-haves this wanna-be decorator desires for her home: High vaulted ceilings, vintage decor everywhere, clean-and-cozy furniture, and lots and lots of color! I thrive in these spaces. So, imagine my delight when designer Emily Henderson announced their new house and plans to redecorate with all of my favorite elements. Not only was her “happy, calm and surprising” scheme exactly what I love, but she revealed her mid-century home that me scooping my chin off the floor.
One thing our Coastal Community doesn’t lack is mid-century ranch homes. During the 50s and 60s, this Rocket City had a thriving population, building beautiful... Read More
If you’re like me, that hopeful list of 2014 resolutions you compiled on January 1st is still hanging on your fridge waiting to be started. Fortunately, the resolutions “I resolve to read more” and “I resolve to spend more quality time with friends and family” don’t have expiration dates. However, my goal to “paint my burnt orange guest bath emerald green while it’s still en vogue” is a little more time sensitive.
How about you? Are you tackling a big home renovation for your New Year’s resolution? If you’re contemplating the purchase of new lighting for the home or business, consider these resolutions to... Read More
I’m a little behind the 8-ball when it comes to classic television. As much as I enjoy curling up on the couch with a bag of popcorn for a night of per-recorded fun, I’m about a decade behind this band of buddies. I started the first season this week and was surprised about how much I recognized the show’s creative set design. In case you’re like me, pre-Friends, the show originates in the mid-90s and revolves around the lives of six friends. It’s wacky, endearing, and quite colorful.
Perhaps I’ve been exposed to the set design through commercials and clips, but the more I spend time watching life unfold in fictional locations like... Read More
