Tucked away in the picturesque hills of Marin County just north of San Francisco, today’s Featured Customer built a craftsman-style home designed not to stand out from this lovely place, but to assimilate with it peacefully.
“We tried to contour the home to the land and make it blend into the surroundings,” David says. Farm land surrounds the new home and the homeowners incorporated elements of corrugated metal into the structure to “keep it classic” as David says. This includes galvanized gooseneck barn lights and a cord-hung barn pendant on the exterior. Like many California homeowners, David and his wife Allison focused on energy efficient fixtures that give the home a green certification.Read More

While we knew that RLM warehouse shades were all the rage in the United States during the 1930s and 40s in factories and warehouses, apparently they were quite popular Down Under too. Our friends at the Red Brick Barn, a rustic, two-story retreat in central Victoria, found some vintage warehouse shades at a local flea market and repurposed them for use in the communal dining room. The shades were green enamel when found at the flea market but were spray painted an off-white color leaving a hint of green showing at the rim as an accent.Read More
You probably don’t need a climatologist to tell you that 2012 was one steamy year in the United States, but it’s official — 2012 was the hottest year on record for the lower 48 according to NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center. The record warm temps shattered previous records and were more than three degrees warmer than the 20th century average. While scientists and laymen debate both the cause and effects of global warming, you may ask yourself what you can do to help. How about some new American-made LED Lighting from Barn Light Electric?Read More
