You’re driving down the road and something red catches your eye. That pesky red hue that Sir Isaac Newton placed at the very beginning of the color spectrum when he first described it back in the 17th century grabs your attention every time. That’s why fire engines, stop signs, and certain poisonous critters bear the color red. It screams, “Look at me and pay attention!” It’s no wonder so many business use red in their exterior color schemes.
Adjacent to a bustling roadway, this modest strip mall needed a way to make people slow down and take a look. The developer chose bright red sign lighting with arching gooseneck arms that adds a festive touch without feeling garish. These lights are very similar to our Emblem Shades, part of our collection of Gooseneck Sign Lighting. The Emblem Shade has the classic look of a larger warehouse shade but with a more rounded, stacked profile. This shade comes in four sizes from a small 8″ shade that is perfect for hostess stands or highlighting a menu outside to a very wide 16″ size that will brighten up the company logo, signage, or landscaping for all to see.
More than 40 finish colors are available for the American made Emblem Shade and Red is certainly one of the more eye-catching choices. There’s also a bright Blue or Yellow if that fits your business style or perhaps something more classic like Galvanized, Dark Green, or Powder Coat Rust. If your business venue has a vintage angle, consider adding a wire cage or cast guard and glass to your Emblem Shade. It not only provides protection to the bulb, but adds a punch of personality not found on big-box store fixtures!
Need something a big smaller perhaps for individual dining nooks, casual seating areas, or to highlight products and small displays? Check out the Mini Emblem Shade which measures a petite 6″ across but has the same stacked shade design as our larger version!Read More
Saavy business owners spend a good deal of time not only monitoring what goes on inside their doors but on what is happening right outside. After all, if you own a brick-and-mortar business and no one slows down to take notice of it, your cash registers will remain silent. Attractive landscaping, prominent signage, and salient lighting are all important factors in getting people through your front door.
Gooseneck sign lighting is a great way to highlight the many facets of your business exterior including signs, walkways, and landscaping features. These examples show the many ways gooseneck arms can be used and how important your choice of a gooseneck arm can be. Gooseneck arms come in a variety of sizes and shapes from straight arms to those with a slight angle to deep curvatures that take a light up and out and back down again. A custom gooseneck arm may be in order if you have a particular obstruction to work around, a poorly placed junction box, or an unusual sign to illuminate.
Our Angle Shade Gooseneck Lighting comes in four shade sizes, more than 40 finish colors, and more than three dozen gooseneck arm sizes to choose from. Be sure to check out the drawings on our gooseneck arm page which show the exact measurements of each arm. If you can’t find the appropriate size and shape of gooseneck arm on our website, please call one of our helpful sales associates and they’ll be happy to discuss a custom made gooseneck arm to fit your special needs.
If you have smaller project that needs lighting, be sure to check out our Mini Angle Shade — a 6″ wide shade perfect for highlighting a restaurant menu, hostess stand, or artwork. Featuring more than 30 finish colors and 17 mini gooseneck arms to choose from, this mini shade packs a punch in any space. You can count on our American made Angle Shades to give you years of satisfaction and service!Read More
Ever since the Cherokee Indians settled in Black Mountain, North Carolina more than 10,000 years ago, folks have been journeying to this quaint town nestled in the Blue Ridge mountains of western North Carolina seeking rejuvenation in the fresh mountain air. Surrounded by the stunning scenery of the Swannanoa Valley, thousands of tourists enjoy hiking, golfing, and the variety of festivals that are held here each year.
Opportunities for exercise are plentiful and the Black Mountain Yoga Center is one place that offers the benefits of strength, flexibility, and balance to one and all. Located in the heart of downtown, visitors to the Yoga Center are welcomed by this group of beautiful emblem shades lighting up the exterior sign. These fixtures are very similar to Barn Light Electric’s Mini Emblem Shade, part of our collection of Mini Gooseneck Barn Lights.
The mini shades are ideal for small or tight spaces and mirror the style of our larger RLM barn lights. With almost every shade measuring about six inches, these lights are perfect for accenting artwork, highlighting a menu display, or as an alternative to traditional bathroom lighting. Used in groupings such as this, the lights add a stylish touch to exterior signage during the day and plenty of illumination after dark. Even in the peak of the building, this example of sign lighting throws a bright beam of light onto the business name.
The mini emblem shade features the stacked neck design of our larger Emblem Shade and reflects designs from the Art Deco movement of the mid 20th century. Dozens of finish colors are available for the mini shade including classic colors like this hunter green, black, or metallic shades. More vibrant tones are available, such as yellow and red, if you want your fixture to have a modern flair. Choose from multiple mini gooseneck arms to create your very own directional sign lighting piece.
When you think of using angle shade gooseneck lights, an exterior application often comes to mind. These are wonderful fixtures for lighting up the outside of homes, commercial building fronts, over awnings, or for signage. But this clever homeowner brings a mini version of the gooseneck shade indoors where it adds an unusually delicate touch to this rustic bathroom.
Using an old window frame minus the glass, two mirrors are inserted into the center squares for use over the sink. The miniature lights, very similar to Barn Light Electric’s Mini Emblem Shade, are angled to throw a bit of light where its needed and add the perfect vintage touch to this bucolic space.
Our Mini Warehouse Shades are smaller versions of our most popular RLM Barn Lights. With most shades measuring just six inches wide, this series of small RLM lights are perfect to showcase artwork, accent small dining areas, or provide an alternative to traditional bathroom or bedside lighting.
Our Mini Emblem Shade features a stacked shade design just like its larger cousin the Emblem Shade, reflecting the Art Deco designs of the early to mid 20th century. The smooth, curved shape, compact size, and low profile are very indicative of this era that emphasized a rounded form and function. The bulb for the Mini Emblem Shade sits high in the upper dome where light is collected and reflected from the white interior.
A variety of options are available for the mini gooseneck arm with different size projections from the wall as well as decorative touches on the arm itself. Built to last by American craftsmen, these fixtures will provide you with years of style and service.

How does an interior designer use barn lighting to transform a smoothie shop into a trendy, yet casually inviting vegetarian restaurant? Sasha Lanka of Sasha Lanka Design, who recently took the reins of this remodel project in Asheville, North Carolina, tells us how.
Q: What was your design direction for plant?
A: This was an extensive remodel. The building needed a lot of work, but it’s in a great location. I wanted to do something a little New York-inspired but also casual and comfortable.
