I’m a little behind the 8-ball when it comes to classic television. As much as I enjoy curling up on the couch with a bag of popcorn for a night of per-recorded fun, I’m about a decade behind this band of buddies. I started the first season this week and was surprised about how much I recognized the show’s creative set design. In case you’re like me, pre-Friends, the show originates in the mid-90s and revolves around the lives of six friends. It’s wacky, endearing, and quite colorful.Read More
No matter what your age or design style, we all like a little bling in our lives. That special something that turns a head and starts a conversation. Or those little extras that pull a room together and make it pop. Often times, this home dècor bling has a history; a vintage piece that isn’t seen on every store shelf or website.
You can incorporate some history into your own home with Barn Light Electric’s collection of Vintage Accessories that include salvaged and decorative accent pieces. These items are a great way to add some new life to a room without the time, hassle, and expense of a major remodel. If you’ve always wanted to try out a new look, but didn’t want to commit to a complete overhaul of your dècor, adding accessories is an instant fix.
This Countertop Mirror in polished brass adds an elegant touch to a guest bath or entryway table. This fixture is an original manufactured by UrbanArchaeology.com and is currently listed at 50 percent off the list price. Or perhaps an Antique Door Knocker, also from UrbanArchaeology.com would make a lovely utilitarian addition to your front door. This American made knocker has a polished brass finish and is also available at half off the list price.
Salvaged Hardware is a great collection to browse for pieces you can install easily and quickly to pep up your dècor. A set of Polished Chrome Hooks in the kitchen to hold towels or tools would be useful or how about dressing up those tired cabinets with some Vintage Crystal Drawer Pulls?
And of course, switching up your lighting is always a favorite way to brighten up a room! A beautifully crafted floor lamp offers a dose of Victorian charm and could be used as an accent in any room. With a detailed shaft, claw feet, and two satin glass shades, the Antique Victorian Double Lamp has been attentively preserved for modern use.
What’s the first thing you see when you stumble through the door after a long week? A stack of bills on that hand-me-down side table? An old coat rack overwhelmed with clutter? Or is it just too dark to see anything because you haven’t replaced that outdated flush mount fixed to the ceiling? Foyers and entryways are high traffic spaces that often go overlooked. Who says utilitarian rooms can’t make you smile?
Style your foyer with colorful, creative accents that refresh you. Smaller spaces are perfect places to incorporate unique wall finishes. Try playing around with interior wallpaper designs like this custom Watercolor Wall Paper from Black Crow Studios.
Accessorize your room with functional and stylish interior decorations like this Oval Swivel Mirror. You’ll never leave the house with a pesky piece of pepper between your teeth when you have such a beautiful mirror to check your smile. Keep track of the time with an oversized clock like this Lillie Tin Clock!
Function meets style with this Chevron Storage Ottoman. Makes a cozy place to slip off your shoes and then hide them away! And you can never go wrong with fresh cut flowers. We love how these peach-hued rose blossoms contrast with the cool colors of this space.
A rustic pendant light like this 18″ Benjamin™ Deep Bowl Stem Mount adds some much needed vintage flair! Plus the large reflector will fill up your room with bright, welcoming light.
First impressions are most lasting… It might be time to revive your entryway a fresh and vibrant makeover.

When a kitchen was first built in the 1920s and hasn’t been remodeled in more than 40 years, the word “update” takes on loads of meaning! But with all things vintage taking center stage in the design world, you don’t want to lose the touches that make a space unique and give it the kind of character you don’t often find in a brand new, builder basic home. This kitchen certainly needed remodeling — stained and scuffed dark wood cabinets and crowded formica countertops were replaced with bright white cabinetry with vintage hardware, a bold blue tiled wall, and an apron front sink. The designer was going for a ”classic English scullery” look with a clean design to maximize functionality in the modest space.
Vintage pendants give a nod to the room’s past with glass shade pendants lighting up the counter and a schoolhouse shade taking center stage in the work triangle. To get the look of the glass pendants, check out our collection of Milk Glass Pendants which includes the Flared Milk Glass Shade with a cotton twist cord. This pendant can be customized with a polished nickel or brass socket and your choice of colored cotton twist cord available in a variety of lengths. An array of nostalgic Edison Style Light Bulbs can give this pendant true vintage flavor!
The schoolhouse shade, which came into popular use in the 1920s when this kitchen was brand new, looks very much like our 19″ Schoolhouse Flush Mount fixture. This light has a satin nickel finish and projects less than a foot from the surface making it a great choice for rooms with low ceilings. This light was originally manufactured by Urban Archaeology and is currently listed at half off the Urban Archaeology price. With its 100-watt light bulb and opal glass, this light will give off a warm glow to kitchens, dining rooms, work spaces, and bathrooms.

If your bathroom still has its mid-century porcelain fixtures—especially if they are powdery pink!—it might be time for an upgrade! While we find this little feminine lavatory charming, its look is quite dated. We were, however, inspired by its details and palette and decided to perform our own imaginary remodel.
In our retro re-envisioning, we kept the aqua and blue hues and substituted the pink with classic white. Two of our other favorites elements were the white shag rug and streamlined wall sconces. The Whisper White Shag Rug would make a delightfully fluffy barrier between your feet and a cold tile floor, don’t you think? These Ultra Skinny Short ADA Sconces look extremely similar to the originals. They give this bathroom update a little modern flair. Amy Butler’s creative Shower Curtain is reminiscent of the original shower curtain; its aqua repeating pattern paired with these terry cloth Hand Towels’ add lots of energy and fun.
We’d recommend swapping out colored porcelain fixtures for traditional white finishes. The Pomezia 27” Console Stand Kit has the same look of the freestanding porcelain sink from the image. Beneath it, there’s space to store baskets full of towels or toilet paper rolls! This Oval Mirror with Swivel mount allows you to adjust your reflection, and its polished nickel finish coordinates perfectly with the vintage Standing Soap Dish and Crest Hook. If you still want colorful pops of porcelain, consider the Ivanhoe™ Marathon Porcelain Pendant. With vibrant finishes like jadite and cobalt blue, these shades would be a great way to incorporate more cool colors into this space!
Still missing the pink? This Champagne and Raspberries Handcrafted Soap gives a nod to the retro design while smelling rather delicious!
