Design Sponge is a daily website dedicated to home and product design and international design shows. The blog, designspongeonline.com, is updated and maintained by its founder, Grace Bonney and her group contributors. The 10″ Deep Bowl Pendant from Barn Light Electric Co.® was highlighted in the Design Sponge post: Under $100 Pendants
Since it launched in 2004, Design Sponge’s blog has attracted a massive following online, with 65,000 daily readers on the site, 89,000 subscribers on RSS feed, and 103,000 followers on Twitter.
As Design Sponge’s readership base continues to expand, Design Sponge’s brand strength is now recognized by the mainstream media. Bonney was a guest on Good Morning America and Martha Stewart’s Radio Show. Design Sponge was described as “Martha Stewart Living for the Millennials” by the New York Times. In addition to her work on Design Sponge, Bonney’s writing work includes a weekly design column for the Philadelphia Inquirer, a style editor of HGTV’s Ideas Magazine, a contributing editor at Domino Magazine, CRAFT magazine, and a freelancer to top publications like House and Garden, New York Home, Food and Wine, In Style, Better Homes and Gardens, New York Magazine, CITY Magazine, Time Out New York Kids, Architect, The New York Post, and Everyday with Rachael Ray.
Bonney speaks at national conferences, design schools and professional trade organizations to connect local designers and provide free advice on the subjects of PR/marketing, legal concerns, business/financial decisions and wholesaling. She also runs a national series of meetups for women running design-based businesses called the D*S Biz Lady Series.
Amy Azzarito serves as Design Sponge’s senior editor and author of the Past and Present column, which translates design history into modern decoration. Lauren Smith and Derek Fagerstrom are the editors for the weekly section on crafts and DIY, titled: DIY Wednesdays.
Design*Sponge takes an active role in philanthropy. It hosts an annual D*S Scholarship to support up-and-coming art and design students. So far over $16,000 in prize money has been awarded to students across the country.
