Art Deco Style Reflected in New York Powder Room

Robin Muto is an interior and lighting designer based out of Rochester, New York. We recently stumbled across a few of her wonderful design projects while browsing the blogosphere.

“Tasteful, Timeless, Comfortable, Refined”

These are the four words Robin uses to describe her design philosophy. However, this particular photo caught my eye right away. By the looks of this Art Deco style bathroom, she clearly holds true to that ideology. It truly embodies the Art Deco design motif.

What makes this bathroom Art Deco, you ask? Well, Art Deco is a design style that rose to popularity in Europe in the 1920s, and powered on strongly in the United States through the 1930s. Art Deco veered away from pastels used in Art Nouveau by sticking to black and white tones paired with metallic, reflective finishes. Another characteristic of Art Deco design is the use of geometric shapes. Take note of the square tiles and clean lines created by the dual mirrors, not to mention the cylindrical shape of the two vintage sconces used above the mirrors.
